Rotherham Council Applying For £20m Levelling Up Bid

As part of the Government-backed Levelling Up scheme, Rotherham could receive up to £20m for new shops and eateries. It would bring the total amount of funding up to £60m, with £40m already awarded for improvements across the borough.

Specifically, work has been proposed for Dinnington and Wath. The new food outlets are part of Rotherham Council’s bid for government cash to ‘level-up’ its towns.

  • Clearing out burnt buildings to create new facilities, including shops and restaurants.
  • Other updates include demolishing and replacing the current library. The improved library would include more facilities, including allocated spaces for exhibitions, collaborations and a cafe.

Cllr Denise Lelliott, said: “If successful, this final bid will make a real difference to local residents of Dinnington and Wath, providing new facilities and enhancing the retail offer to ensure these much-loved town centres remain vibrant and well-used.”

Other proposed improvements included building a new outdoor play and educational centre at Rother Valley Country Park and regeneration of Rotherham Town Centre, including the Riverside Residential Quarter and the Leisure and Culture Quarter.

The Government is expected to announce the outcome of the bids in Autumn 2022. If successful, the council will have until March 2025 to deliver on the projects.

Here’s hoping that Rotherham is successful in its bid. We look forward to seeing how the town develops and progresses.
